5-Star Rating

"Lois taught me that photography was not just about taking pictures — it was about learning to see. A cup of tea in the morning light, shadows on a wall, laughter in passing, quiet stillness in the middle of a busy day — moments I would have normally rushed past suddenly became

meaningful." - Denise F.

5-Star Rating

"Lois is an extremely professional, talented photographer. I've worked with her as both a fellow photographer and as a model. In both positions, she was nothing but helpful, skilled, and always positive. She has incredible talents in both the technical aspects of photography as well as the creative ones. Her ideas really have no end, and her themed shoots as well as her more traditional shoots are quite literally picture perfect." - Allison J.

5-Star Rating

"She is relatable, approachable, and people immediately feel comfortable around her. I believe this is what makes her stand out in photography. Lois understands her subjects she shoots and her creativity is unlike that of anyone in the Midwest area." - Michelle W.

My name is Lois Jea and I fell in love with photography as a young girl when I became the designated family photographer with my Dad's point-and-shoot film camera. Talk about a throwback.

I started learning professional photography when my daughter was a toddler, with an old school, snail mail, correspondence course and my first SLR camera back when shooting slides was the way to go and digital photography was just a dream. Since then I've used smartphones, GoPros, professional DSLRs, and even those cardboard throwaway film cameras.

Along the way, I learned the foundations of photography and what separates those who point-and-shoot and those who take creative control over their images. And that's when I began shooting exclusively in manual mode, creating my own themed photoshoots and practicing the photography foundational techniques and honing my craft. In the process, I learned that the combination of theory and practice and feedback led to consistent photography results and confidence that I had the knowledge to shoot well every time. I've tutored several students over the years teaching them to be able to do the same thing.

Learn DSLR manual mode with confidence and leave auto mode behind forever!

And guess what the #1 thing I've learned throughout this entire journey is...?  👉

"You don't need to know complex technical jargon, or have more expensive cameras than the DSLR you already own, or professional degrees to learn how to shoot in manual mode."

Once you understand the foundational concepts of photography and how to see light, you can take back creative control of your camera because you'll realize the only thing that's been standing in your way all this time was a dial on top of your camera.

AND THAT RIGHT THERE is what inspired me to launch From Auto To Artist and create the online course for helping aspiring photographers quickly develop the skills required to shoot manual mode professional-looking content no matter where you're starting in your photography journey.

But I get it, you probably don't really care about who I am and why I created this platform.

Right now, all you care about is CAN I ACTUALLY HELP YOU!

Well, since teaching my first student in 2006 to today, they have discovered the wonders of having creative control in their photography. The feedback is in... People are amazed at how fast they can learn DSLR manual mode photography skills when they follow a proven step-by-step process.

I hope you're as excited as I am for you to begin this journey! I host 6 weekly Q&A calls for all our early adopters in our private community. I look forward to meeting you soon!

Who Is This Course For?

  • You own a DSLR and shoot mostly or entirely in auto mode — and every time you open your photos, you feel a quiet pang of this wasn't what I saw.

  • You've tried reading your camera manual, watching YouTube tutorials, or fumbling with settings on the fly — and walked away more confused than confident.

  • You volunteer your photography skills for events, family milestones, or community moments because you love it — but secretly worry that one day someone will notice your results aren't as consistent as a professional's. You have a dream — maybe it's half-formed, maybe it's been growing quietly for years — of turning your passion for photography into something more. A side business. A creative calling. A professional identity you're proud of.

  • You're practical enough to want a clear, logical system to follow — and creative enough to know that once you have that system, you're going to run with it.

  • You're tired of getting lucky and ready to start getting it right — every time, on purpose.

Who Is This Course NOT For?

  • You're looking for a gear upgrade to solve your problems. (Spoiler: the DSLR camera you already own is more than enough.)

  • You want overnight results without doing the work.

  • You're happy with auto mode and have no desire to grow (and honestly? That's okay too — but this isn't your course.)
